I’m Hezbullah Zahery, an SIV holder from Afghanistan who arrived in the United States in August 2023. Upon my arrival, a friend suggested that I take the FE exam to enhance my competency of securing professional roles in the Engineering fields.

With unwavering determination and a clear goal in mind, I discovered the Puget Sound Welcome Back Center, an invaluable resource for internationally educated professionals seeking licensure and entry into the workforce. In September 2023, I scheduled an appointment with one of the Center’s staff members. They assisted me in evaluating my credentials, guided me through the EIT application process, and provided me with FE study materials.

Making the most of available government benefits, I dedicated myself to preparing for the FE exam, devoting 5 hours a day over a period of 5 months. Each day, I engaged diligently with the study materials, striving to grasp the intricate concepts and topics essential to the exam syllabus.

In March 2024, I took the FE electrical and computer exam and successfully passed. Passing the FE exam has significantly bolstered my confidence in navigating the job market and excelling in interviews. I take pride in maximizing the resources available to me and encourage all internationally educated engineers residing in Washington State to leverage the resources provided by the Puget Sound Welcome Back Center.
